Barcode help,for end of year art exhibition show?

I am an undergradute on a Digital Art course. For my final exhibition I am working on an exhibition of photographs and artifacts found on and around the river Thames. I would like to make the exhibition interactive by labeling up the artifacts using a bar code with the latitude/longitude co-ordinates which when read would automatically display a google earth satelite picture showing the location where they were found.
Is there any software that would enable me to do this?
Another possibilty would be for me to use a barcode scanner just to bring up videos.

I like how you think- Some may use a RF ID Tag. Many devices have software to do so. I wouldnt know a thing about getting or Writing Software to go to a URL via barcode. You can hide RF ID Tags unlike barcodes.. Just a thought!
An example of what RF ID are is any device you SWIPE like a “Speedpass” at gas station. Also some stores use them for their “Storecards”. Its uses NO electricity yet it Resonates several signals and tones at once. Sending tons of data in a millisecond. You can hook it up through a PDA etc and just be Near the art to get that info. Also when/if someone shoplifts a Buzzer goes off is the cheapest example of RF ID.
